Why is Sustainability Crucial for You and Us?

Interactive Solutions, Inc.’s motto is “communication is everything,” but we also realize the gravity of running a sustainable entity and what this means for our end-users. The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) stated that buildings in the United States account for 39% of CO2 emissions and 70% of all electricity consumption. Although shocking, many of us in the business world opt for what saves us the most money. Let’s be honest - running a business isn’t cheap, but is opting for a more traditional building and interior actually saving significantly more than if you were to go “green?”

Surprisingly enough, the USGBC found not. Many of you may have heard of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification, which is granted if a building passes certain water, efficiency, and indoor environmental quality criteria. In 2015, a LEED study found World Business Council for Sustainable Development respondents believed that going green added a 17% cost increase when in fact, of the 146 green buildings studied, there was only a 2% average marginal cost. Furthermore, they found that going green didn’t just make up lost cost in the long run, but actually attributed to a 6% premium for certified buildings! This totaled to a $5 million increase in market value to each property.

So, what does this have to do with the AV industry? Well, a whole lot. Electronics not in use can be one of your greatest culprits of energy waste, but next-gen solutions enhance power savings. Having up-to-date videoconferencing tech allows you to improve your company’s environmental footprint through reduced travel, time, and labor costs. With AV solutions, you can see tangible results, which is why ISI is here to help and constantly encourages end-users to go green.

We ourselves religiously conduct Zoom video calls among employees, clients, and end users to reduce travel, time, and labor costs on our end and on the other end. The integration of clickshare, control panels, occupancy sensors, and other automation tech and control systems all contribute to green savings. We’ve partnered with many tech companies to allow for the best integration possible. Harmon has designed tech that uses analytics to track usage and occupancy of rooms. This allows for end-users to track when rooms are being used and when they aren’t, as well as who is attending meetings, etc. This information can be used for automatic light and energy savings, among other needs. Crestron scheduling panels allow for better planning of time and space. Cisco dual telepresence cameras allow participants to actually feel like they’re in a face-to-face meeting through it’s speaker tracking capabilities, which reduces the need and urge to have those come to you or you to them. All of these technologies working together or apart use less energy and their capabilities attribute to a sustainable and cost efficient work environment.

As an end-user, it can seem overwhelming to research and try to implement these technologies yourself, which is why ISI is here. We will consult and guide you through the whole process. We will develop a plan that fits your specific needs, as well as offer support contracts after we’ve done our job. We see the value in looking after our end-users and their sustainability needs. Contact us on the “request info” page for a consultation or feel free to send us any questions or concerns you may have.
